When troubleshooting bugs or crash-related issues with Todoist for macOS, you may need to uninstall the app.
To uninstall Todoist for macOS and remove all installation files, follow these steps:
Quit Todoist processes
- On the Mac, open the Activity Monitor app.
- Click the magnifying glass to open the search bar.
- Enter Todoist.
- Press ⌘ Command and click to select all related processes.
- Click the hexagon stop icon to quit the processes. This will remove them from the list.
If there are no Todoist processes running in Activity Monitor, continue to the next step.
Uninstall Todoist for macOS
After making sure there are no pending processes running, uninstall Todoist for macOS:
- Open the Applications folder of the Mac.
- Drag Todoist for macOS to the Trash.
- Empty the Trash.
Remove Todoist application files
Step 1: Remove Application Support data
After uninstalling Todoist for macOS, remove the application files:
- Open a Finder window.
- Click Go from the main menu.
- Click Go to Folder and enter the following file path:
~/Library/Application Support/Todoist
- Press ↵ Return.
- Find the Todoist folder and delete it.
Step 2: Remove preferences
- Open a Finder window.
- Click Go from the main menu.
- Select Go to Folder and enter the following file path:
~/Library/Preferences/
- Press ↵ Return.
- Find the file
com.todoist.mac.Todoist
or any other file that containscom.todoist
. Then, select them and press ⌫ Delete.
Step 3: Remove Saved Application State file
- Open a Finder window.
- Click Go from the main menu.
- Select Go to Folder and enter the following file path:
~/Library/Saved Application State/com.todoist.mac.Todoist.savedState
- Press ↵ Return.
- Find the file
com.todoist.mac.Todoist.savedState
. Then, select the file and press ⌫ Delete.
Step 4: Remove cache files
- Open a Finder window.
- Click Go from the main menu.
- Select Go to Folder and enter the following file path:
~/Library/Caches/
- Press ↵ Return.
- Find file directories that contain
com.todoist
. If there are Todoist file directories, select them and press ⌫ Delete.
Step 5: Remove logs
- Open a Finder window.
- Click Go from the main menu.
- Select Go to Folder and enter the following file path:
~/Library/Logs/
- Press ↵ Return.
- Find the Todoist directory. Then, press ⌫ Delete.
Step 6: Remove application scripts
- Open a Finder window.
- Click Go from the main menu.
- Select Go to Folder and enter the following file paths:
~/Library/Application Scripts/com.todoist.mac.Todoist
~/Library/Application Scripts/com.todoist.mac.Todoist.TodoistShare
~/Library/Application Scripts/com.todoist.mac.Todoist.TodoistWidgets
~/Library/Application Scripts/com.todoist.mac.Todoist.TodoistSafari
- Press ↵ Return.
- Select these files and press ⌫ Delete.
Step 7: Remove container files
- Open a Finder window.
- Click Go from the main menu.
- Select Go to Folder and enter the following file paths:
~/Library/Containers/com.todoist.mac.Todoist
~/Library/Containers/com.todoist.mac.Todoist.TodoistSafari
~/Library/Containers/com.todoist.mac.Todoist.TodoistShare
~/Library/Containers/com.todoist.mac.Todoist.TodoistWidgets
- Press ↵ Return.
- Select these files and press ⌫ Delete.
Step 8: Remove keychain data
- Open Keychain Access in the Utilities folder. When the prompt to open passwords or Keychain Access appears, choose Keychain Access.
- Enter
Todoist
in the search bar on the top-right. - Select and delete the Todoist Safe Storage and
com.todoist.mac.Todoist
entries.
Reinstall Todoist for macOS
After deleting the Todoist application files, empty the Trash and restart the macOS device.
Then, download and install Todoist for macOS.
